1400 years have passed since evil spirits including Ono no Takamura (Matsumura Noriyuki) were imprisoned in a remote mountain pagoda sealed with the four guardians of the compass and watched over by priests. Only two remain: Santoku (Kurata Yasuaki), the resident priest of Kikyoin Temple, and Genryu (Sonny Chiba), who lives in obscurity in the outside world.
The time: the present. The seal binding the ghosts is broken, and they go on a rampage to plunge the world into fear. The disciples of Kikyoin Temple set out to stop them, but are killed in the attempt. The task of purging the spirits falls to Ayumi (Kinoshita Ayumi), who gathers six new disciples to begin training under Santoku...
